About
Michael Rickelton, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, holds degrees from the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University and Lipscomb University. Rickelton began his musical training as a chorister, finding his first musical inspiration the works of Renaissance masters and contemporary composers alike. As his emphasis shifted to composition, his first works were exclusively for voice. This early development as a vocal composer provides a distinctive character to his growing catalog of chamber and orchestral works.
In addition to his on-going search for new texts, Rickelton is particularly attracted to late 19th and early 20th century writers, finding inspiration in the works of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Robert Browning, Rupert Brooke and Georg Trakl. Rickelton remains active as a soloist and chorister and currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife Emily.
