Philip Bourke Marston

1850 - 1887

An English poet, Philip Bourke Marston's poetry was set to music by American composers, including Margaret Ruthven Lang.

Born in London, Marston began to lose his eyesight at the age of four. Marston was inspired greatly by the work of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the notable pre-Raphaelite.

Marston's writings were much more popular in America than they were in his home country.
