Songs of Sadness is a song set by Ned Rorem setting the poetry of Mark Strand, James Merrill, Gerard Manley Hopkins, and Robert Burns. The cycle is for baritone, guitar, cello, and clarinet.
The world premiere of Songs of Sadness took place on Oct. 30, 1994 at Alice Tully Hall (New York City) with baritone Kurt Ollmann, guitarist Sharon Isbin, cellist Fred Sherry, and clarinetist David Shifrin.
