Dawn

An angel, robed in spotless white,
Bent down and kissed the sleeping night.
Night woke to blush; the sprite was gone.
Men saw the blush and called it dawn.
"Dawn" is part of Betty Jackson King's song grouping A Set of Three Dunbar Poems. In Dawn, King uses cluster chords and dissonance in the accompaniment to highlight the profound awe of the poetry.
