About

Whittier’s poems are patriotic, and many have been turned into hymns. “The Brewing of Soma,” his most famous poem, fervently demonstrates his Quaker ideal of universalism. Ives uses an excerpt of this poem in his song “Serenity.”

Whittier was also instrumental in the formation of the Republican party.
