Leberta Loràl is an African American singer and writer. She is known for her work within the African American art song canon.

    Leberta Loràl has found success throughout the classical music realm. As a concert soloist, she has performed works such as “We’ve Come This Far By Faith” and “Soulful Joy,” frequently collaborating with music producer and harpist Destiny Mohammed. Within the operatic canon, Loràl has worked with Festival Opera and the Santa Cruz Opera Project. She has also performed as part of the Monetery Jazz Festival, singing with the esteemed Tammy Lynn Hall.

    In 2020, Loràl wrote a poem entitled “S_Oppressed.” She commissioned Maria Thompson Corley to compose an art song using her poem as the text. Together, the two went on to perform the piece at the 25th African American Art Song Alliance.

    In 2017, she collaborated with composer Richard Thompson to record music for his original opera, The Mask in the Mirror, based on the life of the poet Paul Laurence Dunbar.
