Sergius Kagen

Born in St. Petersburg, Sergius Kagen studied in Berlin in 1921 before emigrating to the United States with his family in 1925. He taught at the Juilliard School and at Union Theological Seminary for many years.

Sergius Kagen became an American citizen in 1930.

Among his compositions are more than 50 songs, as well as two operas: Hamlet and The Suitor, the later of which is based on a play by Molière and was never finished.
