Wild Plum was completed June 12, 1961 in New York City. It is dedicated to John Larkin, a composer who befriended Hundley when he was a student in Cincinnati. He continues to live in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was premiered by soprano Anna Moffo on her American tour in 1963, along with "Maiden Snow" and "For your Delight (A Romance)".
