Tolerance

"Tolerance" is the 59th song of Ives's song collection 114 Songs.

Ives states that the text is "from a quotation in Pres. Hadley's Lectures, 'Some Influences in Modern Philosophic Thought,' Yale University Press." The text is actually the seventh stanza of Rudyard Kipling's poem "Tolerance."

Excerpt from Rudyard Kipling’s “Tolerance”

How can I turn from any fire,
On any man’s hearthstone?
I know the wonder and desire
That went to build my own!
