Curriculum Vitae

"Curriculum Vitae" is the third song of Laitman's cycle Becoming a Redwood, which sets four poems of Dana Gioia. In "Curriculum Vitae," Laitman intends "to mimic the carillon, which chimes the hour and is a symbol of the passing of time."

The performers in the audio recording are Barbara Quintiliani, soprano, and Lori Laitman, piano. Used with the composer's permission.

Text

Curriculum Vitae
by Dana Gioia

The future shrinks
Whether the past
Is well or badly spent.

We shape our lives
Although their forms
Are never what we meant.
