‘Song of America’ in the Classroom: A Media Event on Dec. 12 in Chicago, Illinois

By Song of America

On Saturday, December 12, 2015, from 11am-3pm, the Hampsong Foundation, in collaboration with WFMT Radio Network, the Ryan Opera Center, and WTTW, will host a special event called Song of America in the Classroom: A Media Event, promoting and advocating for the Song of America Curriculum Initiative through discussion of classic song–poetry set to music–as a tool to teach the arts and humanities, especially American history and literature. This event will also highlight the Hampsong Foundation’s multifaceted work to further this agenda through technology and new media.

A special aspect of this event is a live performance of American songs by three young artists from the Ryan Opera Center; the performances will lead to individual conversations between Thomas Hampson and the artists about the world of each particular song, and it’s importance in telling the history of American culture. The entire event will be live-streamed online so that you can watch live from anywhere in the world! Video of the event will later be archived on the Hampsong Foundation website.
