William M. Hoffman

William M. Hoffman is primarily a playwright and librettist, but he also wrote the text for John Corigliano's song cycle The Cloisters.

About

Hoffman, a native of New York City, first received critical acclaim for his play As Is of 1985, one of the first pieces of theater to address AIDS. He was commissioned to write the libretto for Corigliano’s opera The Ghosts of Versailles, which received great critical acclaim. Hoffman is also an editor of the anthology Gay Plays: A First Collection and teaches at The City University of New York.
