Thomas Bailey Aldrich

1836 - 1907

A friend of Walt Whitman, Thomas Bailey Aldrich's Story of a Bad Boy of 1870 paved the way for Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Aldrich, a native New Englander, wrote novels and poetry. He also worked as the editor of New York Illustrated News, the Every Saturday (of Boston), and Atlantic Monthly. His many volumes of poetry were successful, known chiefly for his mastery of form and the light touch found in his verses.
