A Heartland Portrait was commissioned Jack and Linda Hoeschler and is dedicated to Thomas Hampson. The song cycle was premiered in St. Paul, Minnesota by Thomas Hampson, baritone, and Wolfram Rieger, pianist, on Jan. 17, 2006 in conjunction with The Schubert Club and the Library of Congress.
